HISTORY OF THE COLLEGEThe Sisters of the Congregation of Immaculate Conception, Madurai started St.Justin's Training College on 31st July 1968 in the name of His Grace, Dr. Justin Diraviam D.D, J.U.D, then Arch Bishop of Madurai Arch diocese, who was the source of inspiration and with the able support of Dr. T. P. Meenakshi Sundaram, then Vice Chancellor of Madurai University. Rev. Sr. Ernestin Mary was the first secretary, Rev. Sr. Anuncia followed her. Rev. Sr. Beatrice Brown was the first Principal during the year 1968-70. Rev.Sr. Dilecta was the Secretary and Principal from 1970-78 and after her demise, Superior General Rev. Sr. Mary Josefa was the Secretary. Rev. Sr. James Celine took up the charge as the Secretary and Principal from 1980-1988. Rev. Sr. Alphonse was the Secretary and Principal from 1999 to 2006. St. Antony Xavier is the President from 2000 onwards. At present Sr. Arul Mary is the Secretary and Principal in charge. The Institution offers B.Ed course with optional subjects in Tamil, English, Mathematics, History and Biological Sciences since its inception. Now Physical Science has been added to the curriculum since 1992. The College started functioning with six sanctioned posts, later on the posts for Physical Education (1974), Librarian (1975) and for Education (1988) were sanctioned and the addition of staff paved way for the progress of the College. Besides these, temporary and part time staff are appointed. The Present human resources of the college are 7 Permanent teaching staff, 2 Management funded full time and 1 Part time staff and 10 Non-teaching staffs. |

When the college was started in 1968, the students' strength was 80, in due course it increased up to 161 students and at present the students' strength is 100 and it is stable. It is indeed a significant achievement to mention that over 3000 students have passed through the portals of this institution and have received able guidance and education to become very effective teachers in various educational institutions in India and abroad. The growth of this institution through the last many years has been significant from the point of view of the increased staff strength and the infrastructure improvement. The short account presents a global picture of how the College has flourished slowly from 1968 till now in many ways and thus it has crossed milestones of growth and development in all aspects. We are confident that this (our) College will turn into a College of excellence very soon. | |
